No Excuses – It’s Time to Get Fit!

As of the time that I am writing this, it is exactly 5 months until my wedding and I have not done anything to get into shape. Even though this will be the most important day of my life, I am having trouble being motivated to work out.

In December, I started a push-up challenge…which I stopped after a few days. I also began the groundwork for my self-made fitness program, Tux Fitness. Which I will discuss later in this post. What I am getting at, is that I am out of shape and I have 5 months to get in the best shape of my life.

I have discussed my fitness history in a few of my early posts, but now since I am running out of excuses, I need to do what I can to help myself. That includes posting about my fitness to give me accountability. And hopefully, this will help you as well – for those of you who need to get in shape.

This is also my New Years Resolution…to get in shape…I am sure you have never heard that resolution before…

But I will do my “chunk method” that I mentioned in my New Years Resolutions post: “A Different Look at New Years Resolutions”.

I have been in shape before, so I know it can be done. I just have get my butt in gear and actually DO it.

What I Have Done Before

I think I have had 3 or 4 different stints of being in great shape. So I know how to get there – it’s the getting there that’s the problem.

In my previous in-shape attempts, I usually worked out four to five times a week for three to four months before stopping for a variety of reasons. With, of course, more healthy eating and additional protein as well.

Usually, for the first few days, I do body weight exercises with a few compounds here and there. Body weight exercises are push-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, etc. Compound exercises are exercises that work multiple muscles in your body. Most body weight exercises are compound. Other compound exercises included bench press, squats, and dead lifts.

I usually don’t do a lot of cardio, since that doesn’t seem to help a lot with weight-loss or toning for me. However, this time I think I will add in some cardio since I am heavier than I want to be and any calorie burning will be helpful.

My Plan

Today, I did some push-ups to get my body ready to workout again. Tomorrow is my first real day of getting back into it.

I actually signed up for a program called “Run the Year 2020”. Basically, the goal is to hit 2,020 miles by the end of the year. You don’t have to run them all…thank God. Otherwise, I would most definitely not be doing it. So this will force me to wear my Fitbit tracker everyday to track my steps. And since my job is mainly at a desk, I will have to force myself to actually go for walks.

Other than that, I will probably sign up for Planet Fitness and try to go there in the mornings. If not, my office has a gym that I can use as well. So there really is no excuse to not workout. Especially with my wedding coming. I can even add summer as a motivation. I prefer to be a muscular and toned pasty white guy as opposed to a chubby pasty white guy.

Tux Fitness (again)

Like the title says, again…I have mentioned this before in early December I believe. Tux Fitness is my self-made program documenting my transformation from current up until my wedding in five months. The goal is to chronicle everything I do that works and doesn’t so that I can help myself in the future as well as anyone reading.

This program will be designed specifically for men who have limited amounts of time (like me) to work out. But still need to be in good shape for a big event in their lives – whether it be a wedding, family reunion, high school reunion, a get together, a pool party, etc.

I am not sure how I am going to post my chronicles yet. I may do it here on Palm to Face in a separate section called “Tux Fitness” or I may make a separate website to hold the posts…not sure yet. Let me know your thoughts on this one.

I am excited to both get in shape and use this opportunity to share what I am doing and what I have learned with all of you through Tux Fitness. As you know, my goal is to help you live better, and getting in shape will definitely help with that.
